The Indian government has approved the foreign direct investment for the merger of Vistara with Air India.

With this approval, Singapore Airlines will invest $276 million in the new carrier, acquiring a stake of 25.1 per cent in Air India. The merger is expected to be completed by the end of this year.

In November 2022, the two airlines completed their merger agreement. Tata Group owns Air India and operates Vistara as a joint venture with Singapore Airlines, holding a 51:39 stake.

Both airlines have been thinking about the date for the completion of the merger. Earlier, the merger was expected to be completed by October 31, 2024, but it couldn’t materialise.

Now, Vistara and Air India will merge on November 12 and all Vistara's bookings will be directed to Air India.

All Vistara customers who have booked tickets will receive a separate communication about the same.
